Gatto

I almost want to find Gatto and shake him until he realizes just how twisted I think his view is. School is a place where a child can strengthen their mind and find out their true potential. I don't know what his schooling was like, but not once in my life did I ever feel like school was there to train me. I felt like school was the place where I grew up the most I always faced different people and situations. At school I learned how to compromise and adapt to changes. I'm not saying that school was always a fairy tale for me because that would a lie, but it definitely didn't not prolong my childhood. I was always pushed to achieve my potential and think critically. Not once did I ever hear a teacher say that my ideas were too radical or needed to become more simple. As an education major it makes me mad, but it also opens my eyes to what kind of teacher that I need to be. School was always a home to me, when things were bumpy at home I always knew that I could go to school to learn and be surrounded by amazing teachers that only wanted to see me go further in life. As I grew older, school grew with me I began to be faced with more age-appropriate situations that forced me to think more like an adult. High school was one of the best experiences of my life, honestly I would repeat it over again if I had the chance, even the bad parts. In high school I met some of the most influential people that I will never forget. They were teachers who wanted to see nothing but the best for me and when I slacked off they stayed on my back to try harder. I was constantly told that anything I put my mind to I would achieve and they honestly made me believe it. They always encouraged me to speak my mind and no thought of mine was ever considered stupid. Do I believe school is there to prolong childhood and train workers who don't think critically? No! School is a place where a child can blossom and begin to see where they want to go in life.

For some odd reason I really enjoyed the reading in "They Say, I Say" and it's not because I didn't read the other book. I enjoy the way Graff is able to break down complex writing into very simple terms. He has a way of making me feel more confident about writing my next paper. I found that I was able to agree with him when he said that "agreeing [with an argument] is less simple than it may appear]". I have found that in the past when agreeing with an argument I do tend to summarize what has been said rather than adding to the argument. I normally take the easy way out and find an essay to disagree with. When disagreeing I find it difficult to say why I disagree, rather than just stating facts that disprove the argument. I tend to take my voice out of papers and stuff them full of facts and repeat what the author has said. I guess that's what this class is for, finding my strengths and weaknesses and making them stronger!

Meet Me, Jamyla

I am Jamyla Jones, a simple girl who lives life to the fullest. I am the girl who is known to 

break out in song and dance at random times.  My life started out on the infamous Ft. Hood 

army base in Texas. Despite the fact that I was born on an army base, I wasn't an army brat. 
My parents were both in the Air Force, but when I was born they put that all behind.  I spent most of my life in Arlington, Texas and moved after I graduated elementary school. Since then I have moved a lot, I started out in Coppell and after that Frisco, Plano, McKinney, and Allen. I never minded the moves much because I love to travel and the chance to start over again. I am really into cooking, especially baking. I used to play volleyball, basketball, and run track until I decided to be hard-headed and not listen to the doctors about staying off my knee, so now I can’t do anything at all. I still try to play basketball sometimes, but it doesn’t always work out for me. I am a very opinionated person who isn’t afraid to speak my mind, but my problem with that is sometimes I can be close-minded to other people’s opinions. I am a bit of nerd; I love to read and do math problems. Learning is a fun thing for me because I love to expand my mind. My dad started me reading at a very young age, I didn’t always do it willingly then, but I do now. Mary Higgins Clark is my favorite author, her writing style isn’t like anything I normally see. I am an elementary education major because I want to have the opportunity to expand someone else’s mind. Basically I am Jamyla Jones and I am excited to have the opportunity to expand my mind some more while growing in my relationship with Christ.
